HUMAN RIGHTS WEEK CELEBRATION
CHR Regional Office IX Report

CHR-IX Celebrates National Consciousness Week 2012 with the inmates of the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center.

In line with the celebration of the National Human Rights Consciousness Week (NRHCW), as mandated under Republic Act No. 9201 declaring December 4-10 as National Human Rights Consciousness week in the country and for other purposes, with the support of the Atty. Frederick Ian S. Capin, OIC-Regional Director-R-IX, this regional office represented by Atty. Cristina Marie Eugenie Javier-Jimenez, Eusebio B. Tangon, Teresita T. Bernabe, Brendo D. Morales, Dexter L. Ando and Daniel S. Paculanang, Attorney IV, Special Investigators and Information Officer respectively extended and conducted legal clinic to the inmates of the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center on December 7, 2012. During the conduct of the said activity a total of 32 inmates availed the services extended to them and had appreciated the initiative made by this region. The common concern raised by the inmates in this activity were the delays in the conduct of the hearings of their respective cases and had requested this office to assist them in requesting the courts handling their respective cases make some follow up.

This office for its part, assured the inmates to make an official follow up as to the status of their respective cases before the courts.

CHR IX spearheaded the hoisting and displaying of Human Rights Week Tarpaulin.

This regional office spearheaded the hoisting and displaying the Human Rights Week tarpaulin in this part of the region with this year’s theme “ MY VOICE COUNTS IN ENDING IMPUNITY. I WORK FOR HUMAN RIGHTS-BASED GOVERNANCE”. The same was displayed conspicuously at the entrance of the office building where clientele would readily notice. It was not only intended to make the people aware of such a celebration but importantly to make them aware of their basic human rights. Other partner agencies also displayed the Human Rights Week Tarpaulin after requests were made by this regional office headed by OIC-Regional Director Atty. Frederick Ian S. Capin.
