CHR Regional Office XII Report

CHR XII Commemorated HR Week with PTDL (Persons Temporally Deprived of Liberty)
and Conduct of an Information and Education Campaign on Anti-Torture.

      The Commission on Human Rights XII conducted a couple of major activities in commemoration if the international/national Human Rights Week, celebrated every December 2 to 10. On the 06 December 2012, the regional office worked into two (2) teams, one from the Protection Division which conducted Legal Counselling Program and Jail Visitation and Assessment held at General Santos City Jail.

      In a day’s activity, they were able to accommodate by giving advices to more or less sixty (60) inmates, both from male and female correctional facilities.

      The Promotion Division augmented by the Admin-Finance conducted the one (1)-day “Information Education Campaign on Anti Torture”. The same was held at Country Homes Hotel and Convention Center, General Santos City. The participants who attended were from; Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency XII(PDEA XII), Civilian Intelligence and Detection Group XII (CIDG XII) , NBI XII, Bureau Of Jail Management And Penology XII (BJMP XII), Provincial and City Jail Wardens, Regional HRAO, PNP XII, Provincial HRAOs, PNP XII.

      After the inputs on Basic Human Rights, the Convention on Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and Republic Act N0. 9745, otherwise known as An Act Penalizing Torture And Other Cruel, Inhuman And Degrading Treatment Or Punishment And Prescribing Penalties Therefor, the participants in group went on an action planning session stating their implementation plans on echoing information education campaign on anti torture.

CHR XII with IPs (Indigenous People’s) Children

      Utilizing the funds from released thru the office of the Hon. Mavic Cardona and the Child Rights Center, CHR XII in cooperation with the Marine Battalion Landing Team 1 conducted an outreach program in the spirit of the Yuletide season. The activity was a feeding program cum giving of school supplies (notebooks, pad papers, pencils and crayons), and free haircutting –with the members of the marine corpse as barbers.

      The children-beneficiaries where Day Care pupils of the five (5) interior barangays of Datu Odin Sinsuat, Municipality, province of Maguindanao. Most of the children were from the Teduray tribe. The activity was held on 17 December 2012, at Brgy. Tapian, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, the most accessible among the 5 barangays.
